We currently have a waitlist for therapy services, however, assessment appointments and online advice & guidance sessions are more readily available.
Colourful Communicators provides in-person support in your child’s natural environment (e.g. home, preschool, school, or other community setting) in Carrigaline, Cork and close surrounding areas. Our assessments & therapy sessions are neurodiversity-affirming and focus on strengths, functional communication, & meaningful interactions.
Online consultations are available nationwide for those looking to discuss their concerns with a Speech & Language Therapist and get some ideas for practical next steps to support their child. Particularly helpful for parents who are waiting to access SLT supports through the public system and are wanting some tips to get started in the meantime.
Communication Assessments

A strengths-based assessment to build a picture of how your child communicates (e.g. how they engage, play, express themselves, understand language, etc.).
Included:
Pre-assessment questionnaire.
Discussions around your child’s development, strengths, and interests.
Observation and play-based communication assessment.
Video analysis (if necessary).
Brief written summary with recommendations (please note, this is not a formalized report).

For those who have received speech & language therapy services within the past 6 months and are looking to begin a new block of sessions.
Includes:
Review of previous therapy report(s), if available.
Pre-assessment questionnaire and/or discussion with caregiver.
Observation & rapport building through play.
Goal setting with caregiver.

A shorter, targeted assessment designed for those needing support in a specific area of development.
Please note: This assessment is not a general intake option and is offered when deemed suitable for the client’s specific support needs.
This may include:
Speech sound assessment.
Gestalt language sampling.
AAC analysis/planning.
Fluency assessment.
A brief written summary with recommendations is provided (please note, this is not a formalized report).

An evaluation of how your child’s communication is supported in their educational/community setting.
Focus includes:
What’s working well/what supports are already in place.
Identifying practical ways to reduce any communication or regulation barriers (e.g. visual supports, adult interaction styles, sensory set-up, etc.).
Included:
Observation session in their educational or community setting.
Collaborative discussion/feedback shared with your child’s educators (if appropriate).
Brief summary with recommendations.
Access to printable visual resources.
Please note, this is not an assessment of your child’s communication skills.

Standardized assessments are not currently offered.
At Colourful Communicators, we specialize in working with neurodivergent individuals and young children, where standardized testing is often not the best fit.
Instead, we use a holistic, strengths-based approach that includes family input, observation, and play-based interactions within the child’s everyday environment. This helps us understand their current abilities and identify meaningful next steps.

Play-Based Therapy Sessions

45 minute in-person therapy session in your child’s natural environment (home, educational setting, community centre, etc.).

Please note:
Therapy works best when the people who spend the most time with the child are part of the process. Caregivers and educators are encouraged to observe or join in during therapy, so strategies can be easily transferred and used throughout daily routines at home or school in between sessions.

3 x Adult Coaching Sessions:
45 minutes per session.
Conducted in-person in the child’s natural environment, alongside the child.
Includes collaborative discussion, modelling of strategies, reflective feedback, & guidance to support communication, engagement, & sensory needs.
Optional video feedback is available to help adults recognize and build on their strengths in a supportive & judgment-free way.
Suitable for parents, caregivers, or educators.

Tailored strategies and activities for adults to work through with the child following a block of direct therapy with the Speech & Language Therapist.
Depending on the child’s stage of development, a home programme may also be suitable in the interim whilst waiting for initial speech & language therapy input. Please get in touch via our contact form to see if this is a suitable option for you.

In-person appointments are available within a 15km radius of Carrigaline. Appointments further afield may be available on a limited basis — please get in touch to discuss availability.
Online Advice & Guidance

45 minute online advice & guidance session for those awaiting in-person therapy, or looking to support general communication development through engagement & language strategies.
Particularly useful for parents of ‘late talkers’ or those who have recently received an Autism diagnosis.
Includes:
Discussion around your child’s interests and current communication skills.
Sharing of appropriate strategies and activity ideas to aid communication development.
Follow up information handouts will be provided via email following the session.

Cancelation Policy:
If you are unable to attend your appointment, please provide as much notice as possible to allow for rescheduling.
Charges will apply for appointments cancelled with short or no notice:
Less than 24 hours notice:
- Therapy sessions: 100% of the session fee will be charged.
- Assessments: 50% of the appointment fee will be charged.
More than 24 hours notice:
No fee charged.
We appreciate your understanding that missed or late-cancelled appointments affect our small practice and limit availability for others waiting for services.
Health Insurance:
Did you know that some health insurance policies now cover part of the fees associated with accessing speech & language therapy services?
Make sure to check with your insurance provider about your particular policy.
Claiming Tax Relief:
If you do not have a health insurance policy that covers speech & language therapy services, consider looking into the Revenue website and options for claiming tax relief for these services through your yearly income tax return. More details can be found here.
Remember to retain all receipts for services.
